Aunt Kaykee

Rolling out the red carpet on my new blog, I wanted my first blog post to be something important, something to introduce my blog and me. I toyed around with a scintillating debate on the differences between infants and toddlers or my excitement over my forthcoming trip. As it is I decided to go in a different direction, Lucky you. I had planned on introducing some of the most important things in my life and I think I've failed a bit, but please allow me to make up for lost time by introducing you to what makes me, well me....

My niece and nephew! That may seam anticlimactic to you, but allow me to make my case before you judge. They are the perfect way to let you know more about me, myself, and I, because I love being an aunt!

First we have Emily Adelle Van Dusen, I'm sure you'll agree she's the most adorable little girl on the planet. I mean really, who couldn't love a face like tnat? She is a rambunctious little two year old, the perfect combination of my brother Justin and sister-in-law Allison. This little girl is BRILLIANT! She knew basic sign language before age 1 and was able to spell her name before she was 1 and 1/2.

Next coming in at a wopping 22 lbs, Looogan Lainhart(don't you love the alliteration). This darling little boy is epitome of a Van Dusen, yes I realize he's a Lainhart, but look at those cheeks you can't deny the Van Dusen in him. My dad is convinced he'll be the athlete in the family, possibly a future linebacker? I'm fairly certian genius runs in the family (as well a cute genes) because he is briliant as well. 9 months old and he's crawling all over the place and getting into everything I might add (much to my sister's dismay).

I've been luckier than most Aunts because I've gotten to watch them grow. Emily lived with my family when 6 months old for about a year. And I go to school 30 minutes away from where my sister lives and I get to see Logan once or twice a week. I love being an Aunt (have I said that already?), I mean you get all of the perks and none of the mess. And guess what, theres another one on her way Lila Van Dusen. Can't wait till this little bundle of joy joins the Van Dusen clan, Oct. 2010.

feel free to quote me

Quote of the day:
"A man learns nothing from winnng, the act of losing however can elicit great wisdom. Not least of which is how much more enjoyable it is to win. It is inevitable to lose now aand again, the trick is not to make a habit out of it"-A good year

BOOM BOOM POW

Today was an explosive day... literally. Prepare yourself I'm about to launch into a story, here goes:
This afternoon I was sitting around with a spare bout of extra time and I decided to treat myself and my roommates to a sweet treat. After mulling it over with some serious thought and taking into consideration the various opinions of my roommies I choose to make peanut butter bars. After following the recipie with exactness (of course) and taking my culinary masterpiece out of the oven after the allotted time, I placed my delicious dessert on top of the stove to cool. Several minutes later I looked up from my laptop (where I was dutifully studying) and saw my masterpiece smoking. I hurried over to see what the problem was and I realized that I'd accidentally placed the dessert on a burner that had been left on. I quickly moved it over to a burner that was off and preceeded to fan my now smoking dessert, in fear that the fire alarm would soon be going off. So I had my face inches from the dessert blowing as hard as my cheeks could blow when BOOM! (Yes there actually was a boom) The casserole dish holding my delicious treat exploded, glass and peanut butter all over the kitchen. I know what you're thinking and yes I'm fine thanks for asking. By divine intervention I'm sure I was unscathed and considering how close my face was to the dish, I count myself very lucky. It was however a pretty big mess to clean up. Despite the mess though I think it makes for a fun story to tell when I'm older, like hey remember that time in college....

Buffalo Exchange!

Thrifting is awesome, but I think I'm a little of a thrift store cheater. My cousin is a hard-core thrifter and she finds some rad stuff, but my version of thrifting is going to Buffalo. Buffalo is like a high-end thrift store and its officially my new favorite place! They give you the option of buying AND selling. You know the term emotional eating? Well I emotional shop which quite often leaves me with buyers remorse. Not to mention I get bored of my clothes faster than I should, so Buffalo is perfect for me. I get to get rid of my old crap for new crap! This time, much to my mother's pleasure, I got rid of my pink lepoard skinnies, yes I did actually own a pair of pink lepoard pants, forgive me it was a halloween costume. Thankfully those..unique pants are gone among other things I never wore and are replaced with two pairs of super cute shoes! Ahhh good day shopping!

Brown Bear

I am the person you hate to compare your tan with. Growing up I was affectionately given the nickname brown bear. If you look at the picture to the right, the nickname becomes self-explanatory, in comparison to my friends and family I was, well DARK. I've always been the darkest one in my family, my little brother even likes to tell people I'm adopted. When I was younger I loathed being different, I wanted to look like everyone else, I wanted to be white! Now that I am older I've learned to love what makes me unique. I've been asked many times what my heritage is and some people less tactfully have asked me "what are you?". I've been told I look like many different races, people have speculated if I have Native American blood or Spanish blood. One of my best friends is convinced I am part Mexican and lovingly refers to me as a beaner. Most people are disappointed to find out I'm Dutch. They are convinced I am missing something, somewhere someone back in my heritage MUST have contributed to my skin color. I don't care though, I am an anomaly and I love it!
